“Deserts, jungles, mountains or coast; I don’t have a preference. If I’m out in nature with everything I need in the world on my back, chances are my smile is wide and my thoughts are clear.”
From a hiking background the team at Sherpa is well experienced in the outdoor field and know exactly what mother nature can put on offer. Getting out of the city and into the wilderness has enormous amounts of health benefits and can greatly improve mental well being. We want to embrace this feeling of freedom and tranquillity and invite all our customers to enjoy such fulfilment in the outdoors. Hiking can certainly be an intimidating venture for newbies and its hard to know where to begin but put simply if you like the outdoors, you’ll love hiking and we’re going to help you get out there!
When people think of hiking our minds usually jump to well-trained travellers walking in extreme conditions with oversized packs for weeks upon weeks but this is not all that hiking is about. To us hiking is all about enjoying nature and having fun while exploring new surroundings.
If you’re out of shape or just beginning your journey to a better lifestyle, thoughts about serious hiking can certainly keep you indoors and away from the trails. However, although hiking can certainly be epic, it doesn’t need to be. Start small with small walks around your local park or neighbourhood for a few hours on a Tuesday evening or Sunday morning. Maybe explore down the back paddock at your friends house or the fire trail down the road.
The best thing to remember is there is no right or wrong way to hike. Go at your own pace, enjoy the scenery and take rests whenever you need but most of all – enjoy!
One other important component of hiking? – people! Hiking can be a great social event as well. Some people enjoy hiking alone more as an escape or style of meditation. If you do hike alone, make sure to tell people where you are going, the route you are taking and when to expect you back.
Steps to take before you start your next hike:
1. Decide how long you have to hike
2. Decide if you’ll be hiking solo or with a friend/group
3. Determine your starting level
4. Pick your hiking location – Trail Hiking Australia has some great walking guides available based on your location. Otherwise explore somewhere new in your local area or somewhere you’ve always dreamed of going!
5. Let somebody else know
6. Get your gear ready!
