Ultra soft to the touch
Excellent moisture management
Easy care (machine washable)
Lightweight & comfortable (190 GSM fabric)
Sherpa PCD II Polypropylene Baselayers are the ideal baselayer. Worn close to the skin they keep you warm, dry and comfortable.
Sherpa’s PCD II Polypropylene has the lowest thermal conductivity of any traditional fabric, allowing your body to retain its natural heat. It does not absorb moisture, so it keeps you dry. Any moisture that is generated is wicked away from the body leaving a warm layer of air next to the skin.
PCD II Polypropylene is also very lightweight and extremely quick to dry, making it easy to keep fresh for multi-day users. It is significantly softer than other polypropylenes and is extremely comfortable to wear.
You will always perform at your best in
Sherpa PCD II Polypropylene Baselayers.
100% Australian Merino, nature’s best
Superfine 18.5 microns non-itch Merino
Excellent moisture & temperature management
Flat lock seams & raglan sleeves
Easy care (machine washable)
Shape retaining interlock knit
Merino is nature’s miracle fibre, providing unique properties of warmth and comfort that only nature herself could come up with. At Sherpa we use only the very best, superfine 18.5 micron Australian Merino wool.
The lower the micron figure the finer the merino is and the less likely it is to cause any itching. Do not buy merino for wearing against the skin with a micron count higher than 18.5.
Sherpa’s Merino Baselayers keep you dry during periods of physical activity, as nothing wicks moisture away from the skin like merino wool. Our Australian Merino Baselayers are ultra soft to the touch and will not itch. and do not capture odour.
You will always perform at your best in Sherpa
WEIGHT WHEN WET
WARMTH WHEN WET
Very long lasting
WHEN TO WEAR IT
Polypropylene is an inexpensive thermal wear option for general use. For some (those who sweat a lot) they are better than merino when involved in high levels of physical exertion in cold conditions
Merino garments regulate the body’s surface temperature whatever the atmospheric and exertion situations. Initial financial investment is higher however the overall performance and lifetime of the garment exceeds that of polypropylene. Merinos construction and natural stretch offer total freedom of movement and can be used as a base layer when on the trails, or as an only layer for out and about. Long term the best value for money.

Lorpen is a Spanish company based in the Pyrenees who designs and manufactures innovative technical socks for the outdoors, sport and casual use. Lorpen socks are sold in over 60 countries. Sherpa is the distributor of Lorpen Socks in Australia.
Lorpen have qualified for ISO 14001 for environmental management as well as ISO 9001 for quality. From the yarns they use in their socks, to the packaging and the inks & paper for their catalogues Lorpen strive to source from sustainable and manageable resources. Post production waste is minimised at all levels.
Two things go together to make a high quality sock – Composition & Construction. Lorpen excels at both.
Through constant innovation and research focused on new yarns Lorpen has pioneered the use of “Layered Yarn Technology”. This process has lead to the T3 series of Hiking & Mountaineering, Trail Running and Skiing products featured on this site. T3 or Tri Layer socks significantly improved the performance of outdoor socks, including the performance of highly regarded Merino socks with the introduction of new high performance fibres like Primaloft.
No one fibre can provide the maximum benefit for all conditions but with Lorpen’s unique layering of three different fibres they have created socks that excel in the specific conditions that they are designed for.
TIPS & FOOTCARE
The basic rule of foot care is to wash them daily, keep them dry and change socks frequently. And, of course, cut toenails properly so they don't become ingrown. It is also advisable to use a moisturising cream specifically for feet to keep the skin sufficiently supple and to avoid future problems.
In all physical activities, it is essential to wear socks in good condition that fit well, are not too tight and have no large seams. It is contradictory to invest in good footwear and then wear cheap poor quality socks or socks on the verge of falling apart or which have lost their stretch and sag (forming bags). The sock is fundamental to our comfort and unless it fits the foot perfectly, you are more susceptible to blisters, chaffing and other discomforts.
After exercise it is a good idea to relax the feet by bathing them first in cold water, then hot and finally cold again. Dry them well and apply soothing cream and moisturiser. These baths serve to stimulate the circulation. The cold makes arteries and veins contract, while heat makes them dilate. By stretching and dilating the veins, you get a great vascular work-out.
How to massage your feet:
Feet really benefit from massage. They are sensitive, delicate and at the same time tough. The soles of the feet have hundreds of nerve endings. Just stroking them gently produces a general feeling of well-being and relaxation throughout the body.
Hold the right foot with the left hand, the thumb over the head of the metatarsals (the five bones in the mid foot area leading to the toes) and the four fingers over the instep. With the right hand massage the toes, accentuating the massage on the tips of the toes. With both hands work the sides of the foot from toe to ankle.
Grip the Achilles tendon between the thumb and the forefinger and massage upwards over the tendon, supporting the leg.
Work the instep from toes to heel with the open hand.
Bend the leg up to the thigh. Using the left hand to firmly hold the knee, bend the leg gently towards the thigh as far as possible without causing pain.
Keeping the left hand on the knee, gently extend the leg with the right hand on the heel until fully extended.
Once the sequence of movements has been completed with the right foot, go on to the left foot and work in the same way.
HOW TO PREVENT:
Corns are produced by excess growth of the stratum corneum layer (outer layer of the skin) due to friction or continuous pressure. Corns can be prevented by eliminating the cause of the pressure or chaffing. It is imperative to wear suitable, comfortable footwear and socks. The quality of Lorpen’s design and construction techniques including the flat toe seam eliminates pressure points. Keeping feet well-hydrated with a cream especially for feet also helps to reduce the hardening of the skin and emergence of corns.
Blisters are formed by friction and chaffing against other surfaces, causing the tissues to heat up. To prevent blisters both the footwear and the sock must fit properly, so that the foot doesn't "dance around" inside them. The use of Lycra in Lorpen socks together with good design & construction techniques ensures a long lasting perfect fit.
Calluses are fragments of hard, thickened skin which cause pain and a burning sensation because of pressure on the nerve fibres. They can be prevented by taking regular care of the feet: exfoliating to eliminate dead skin at least twice a week and keeping the skin hydrated every day.
Foot odour is a consequence of high temperatures and lack of ventilation, causing the feet to sweat and be excessively humid. If this moisture is not wicked away or fought off, the sweat comes into contact with the skin's natural bacteria which decompose and cause the bad smell. Lorpen Tri Layer technology combined with good fabric selection eliminates odour problems
